Title Sponsor Highlight – NRS

NRS have been an amazing supporter of the Toby Creek Race and Festival since day 1.  The event really only started after Simon pitched it to NRS Canada rep Brian Cooke and he was all over it like a dirty shirt.  So, when you are having a great weekend of paddling and socializing, a large part of that can be attributed to NRS  ongoing support.

  1. What do you do?  What makes your company tick?
NRS is a 100% employee-owned company dedicated to providing the equipment, inspiration and expertise that empower adventures on the water. We deliver on that mission with outfitter-grade equipment and apparel built for ultimate utility in the wild.
  2. How long have you been in business?
Born among the rivers, lakes and oceans of the rugged and beautiful northwestern United States, NRS has served paddlers in the U.S. and around the world with professional-grade equipment and apparel since 1972.
  3. What is your ‘signature’ product, what helped you become the business you are today?
NRS founder Bill Parks created the first purpose-built dry bag for paddlers, the now-iconic Bill’s Bag, in 1977.  Since then, NRS has become a leading manufacturer of paddling apparel, life jackets, accessories and inflatable watercraft. Some classic products include the Bill’s Bag, Otter and Expedition series rafts, and the famous NRS Tie-Down Strap.
  4. What are you providing to support the event?
NRS contributes $1000 cash to the event which goes directly into the prize purse for the Elite category competitors.  They also send along the always stoked Brian Cooke who is the Canadian rep for NRS.  He will be the guy cheering the loudest at the finish line and hooking up volunteers with a yummy bagged lunch.  Make sure to say gday and give him a thanks and high 5 when you see him around.
  5. We know businesses are inundated with sponsorship requests, why are you involved with the Toby Creek Festival?
NRS have been the title sponsor of this event since day 1.  Brian and Simon chatted about having an event that appealed to all levels of paddlers and had great visibility to the general public.  The community nature of this event is what keeps NRS coming back as a major supporter.  The community focus of this event fits 100% with NRS company beliefs and values.

NRS also has an amazing social media presence, and their educational videos and duct tape diaries fall into the infinitely consumable category.  Very worthwhile checking them out on the channels below!
